RE: crossroads cruiser.

Great company that stand behind thier product. I have never needed to bring it back to the dealer, what minor issues I had were fixed by me. The fit and finish is as good as it could be. We have been real pleased.

RE: financing fth

Terd Herder, not all is the same for everyone. What works for some may not work for others. A person has to use common sense in the financial decisions they make. Just because some cannot afford to pay cash does not mean that they should not borrow money, as long as they are diligent. Some people live beyond there means and end up in trouble. This is where Dave Ramsey can be of help. Not all people do this. Some are very good at managing thier dollars. I still would not want to use a home equity loan for an rv purchase, just my opinion.

RE: financing fth

. I would not personally use my home equity, even though there may not be anything wrong with that. That being said, I probably should though, because I have too much equity in my home. You can NEVER have "too much" equity in your house and you should NEVER use your equity in your house as a savings account for when you want to buy something. People say you should always have a house payment in order to have a tax deduction. My question is WHY? If you pay $3000 a year in taxes and insurance, is that not better than paying a $1500 a month mortgage payment. Take that $1500 a month and put it in an IRA. When you get older you'll thank yourself. Anyway, back to the main point, HELOC's are not a good idea PERIOD. Especially for buying toys..... Ken Right on Ken. The pro-debt slavery mantra of the real estate mobsters (mortgage brokers, realtards, etc) is a way to enrich themselves and keep you on the debt treadmill until you fall off it. The whole mortgage interest tax offset is the scam of scams. Why in the world would I want to pay one dollar to get back 25 cents? Nobody can answer that question and I've asked ALOT of people, most of whom are the ones saying it is acceptable to mortgage your house. I agree that you should never take a mortgage for a tax deduction so quit quoting me as if I did. Great wealth is built from leverage. The wealthiest people in this great country have borrowed money at a fixed rate from banks to build wealth beyond your dreams.

RE: financing fth

I can pay cash, but with interest rates as low as they are I can keep my money invested and be better off financially. Equities have always returned more than debt instruments over time. A person has to do what he feels most comfortable with. There is no right answer for everyone. I would not personally use my home equity, even though there may not be anything wrong with that. That being said, I probably should though, because I have too much equity in my home. You do need to have a good balance, with everything in life.

RE: Kingston VS Montana Mountaineer 5th Wheel

With CrossRoads, I did not have to deal with the dealer, it has never been back after the purchase. The small issues I did have were worked out with the factory. A great company.

RE: 2008 Carriage bedroom windows don't open

We just ordered a 2008 Cameo 32SB2 with the new window design. The slide side windows do not open and do not present a problem for us. I can see how some may not like it based on personal needs. I do hope Carriage finds a solution for those in need. Good day!

RE: OE Wheel load rating

Thanks Skip. Anyone know a good source to find out. I was at a tire dealer that suggested the 4142 number was it. They also called the dealer who told them it was 8600. I could call the dealer myself, probably will to see what they say.

OE Wheel load rating

I have the OE 16X6.5 Polished Forged-Aluminum wheels on my 2007 Classic 2500HD LBZ CCn4X4. There are some numbers stamped on it, some of which are: GM C/N 959 4142 Superior SF 1 T DOT The tires are OE LT 245/75R16 load range E with 3042 lb rating. I am thinking the 4142 may be the load rating per wheel, what say you? Thanks.

RE: pin weight help

Some people have to have others tell them what can and can't be done, they just can't seem to figure it out themselves. It's kind of like school zones, there has to be a law for those that don't know enough to slow down when they see kids nearby. I have to say that I am amazed.

RE: pin weight help

My aluminum wheels are rated for 4,142 each. Some times you have to use common sense in what one does.

RE: pin weight help

Thanks all for the help. Well, I went and weighed my truck today. Full tank of fuel tool box in bed with normal load 5er hitch bed mat normal load in the cab with me 165lb without 120lb DW & 15lb dog Front 4,200 Rear 3,060 Total 7,260 That leaves 1,940 for pin weight. If I add an air lift, I will be good to go for about 3,000lb pin. I may even add higher rated tires just for extra safety sake. The current tires are good for 6,084lbs. Any comments? Thanks a lot for the help.

RE: pin weight help

Since I have a 2500HD that has the same frame as a one ton, if I upgrade the suspension, would it increase my 9200 gvwr?

RE: pin weight help

Owners manual states that for MY truck king pin weight 3,000 lb max. This is due to the even distribution of the weight. If you load randomly, occupants & cargo, 2,369 lb is the max weight. I admit that I was off on my truck weight, closer to 6,000 lbs most likely. I will weigh it.
Kathryn's Fate 02/03/08 01:16pm Fifth-Wheels
RE: pin weight help

Thanks donn, You could be right. The 9200gvwr minus 5800 truck weight leaves 3400 for pin plus driver, passengers and cargo. Looks as if it could work.

RE: pin weight help

Hey Skip, thanks for the reply. The 2369 does not apply to me because I will have a 5th wheel pin. You can go heavier due to even distribution of the pin. YOU need to know the facts before you post. Please reread my post and you will see that my post says the 3317 needs to include all else, the same thing you are trying to say. Golden, you are misinformed as well. Thanks for trying.

pin weight help

I have a Classic 2007 2500HD D/A LBZ CC SB 4X4. On the door jam it says 2,369 lbs max for cargo & occupants The owners manual says max pin weight is 3,000 lbs The sales brochure says 3,317 lbs max payload include driver, passenger, optional equipment & cargo. I am wanting to purchase a 5th wheel with a dry weight of 10,530 w/14,200 gvwr. The pin is 2,230 lbs dry. The rear tires are rated for 6,084 combined. If you think I am ok, good. If not, should I: #1 beef up suspension - how? #2 add higher rated tires? #3 anything else? Thanks.

RE: Excel or mid-range

My recommendation would be to go with the Excel. The extra features are nice to have. I am moving up and considered Excel, and would buy one, but due to the wood construction the weight is more than I want. www.Carriagerv.com Cameo is on my short list right now.
